In fields of green, a school does stand,
With classrooms reaching, hand in hand.
But lessons learned here aren’t all from books,
They hatch and chirp with clucking crooks.
A coop of chickens, a feathery sight,
Rhode Islands, Sussex, plumage bright.
Brown eggs they lay, a breakfast treat,
For little hands and morning’s meet.
The children gather, dressed in boots,
To feed the hens with morning shoots.
They learn of life, of chick to hen,
A cycle watched, again, again.
With gentle care, they gather near,
To stroke the feathers, soft and dear.
The chickens coo, a happy sound,
As knowledge grows on fertile ground.
From counting eggs to cleaning straw,
The school farm lessons they saw.
Responsibility, a lesson true,
The gift of life, beneath the blue.
So next time you hear a rooster’s crow,
Remember the children, learning how,
To care for creatures, great and small,
The school farm, loved by all.
