A couple of junk bikes ready for restoration

A Couple of Bicycles

I have recently collected two ‘junk’ bikes, although what is junk to someone is treasure to another. Over the last 9 months I have been learning about electrifying bicycles. I added a 1000 watt motor to bike and built a sidecar for it, then promptly sold it.

Then I had an old Raleigh and I added a 500 watt motor to that and have used that as my daily run for several months but now I am going to try something different. I’m going to do some bike restoration.

Hopefully, you will be able to see that both bikes have rough paintwork which will need sanding back and repainting. The smaller of the two bikes is perfect fr my youngest daughter and so I will start on that first. The wheels look good but will need new tyres and inner tubes. I haven’t checked any bearings yet so will need to inspect them. All cables and brake pads will be replaced.

The other bike I am going to try a few things out. Firstly, paint the frame and remove any rust. Next it will need new wheels, tyres and inner tubes. At this point I am tempted to move my electric wheel over to this bike and add an electric wheel to the front of the bicycle. Can I run two electric wheels on one bike? I have seen a Youtube video that shows how, I’ll have a go. I will need it. I am going to try to upgrade the bike to have disc brakes and also lengthen the bike to make it a cargo bike in length. I also want to build a sidecar for it and finally I am going to convert an old ammo box to a side pannier. It will have a gas stove in and various other bits and pieces we need to make a cup of tea!

Lots of projects and I will try to take pictures along the way.
